Family: The O’Connors are an upper middle class, magical, family consisting of Benjamin O’Connor, his wife, Margaret Prince (no relation to the Pure Blood family), and their three sons, Matthew, Shawn, and Colin. Benjamin works as a Healer at the Wizarding Hospital in Dublin, Ireland often working out of the hospital as a Mobile Healer, going wherever his skills might be needed. While this brought in a handsome paycheck, Margaret still opted to find something to keep herself busy, other than being home all day long with three rather lively boys. Margaret works as an accountant and financial advisor at the Main Wizarding Bank in Dublin.
Upon completing their various schooling, all three O’Connor boys found their own way in the world, taking up their own mantles of adulthood. Matthew followed his father, and became a Healer. He currently works at the same hospital as his father, specializing in the care of young witches and wizards. Shawn moved to London and completed Auror training at the top of his class. He currently hold a position in the Auror department of the Ministry of Magic. Colin also moved away from Ireland as he perused a carrier with magical creatures. He currently is a highly coveted member of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures department of the Ministry of Magic.
History: Colin Patrick, youngest son to Benjamin and Margaret O’Connor, was born on a frigid, snowy night in Limerick, Ireland. The youngest of three sons, his parents were overjoyed. While Margaret had hoped for a daughter, she saw Colin’s birth as a sign that she was meant for sons. Colin and his brothers lived a relatively tame childhood surrounded by friends and family from both the Muggle and Magical community. Seeing as their mother was born to a Wizard who married a Muggle, Margaret wanted to be sure her sons had a balanced view of the world. Benjamin didn’t hesitate to agree as his family also has a line that ties to the Muggle community.
Nearing his 11th birthday, Colin received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor alongside his older brothers. Colin was also among those of his House to join the Quidditch team. Taking up the post as Chaser, he helped Gryffindor achieve multiple memorable victories. Taking particular interest in Care of Magical Creatures from the start, Colin perused everything he could that would give him as much knowledge in the realm of magical creatures with the goal being to attend University following his time at Hogwarts. Achieving several Os and Es on his OWL and NEWT Exams allowed him an easy path to the University of his choosing. Majoring in Magical Animal Care, Regulation, and Medicine gave him the perfect blend to achieve his FMRCVS (Fellow of the Ministry Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) in little to no time at all, coupled with a DMoMMCECC (Diplomate of the Ministry of Magic Magical Creature Emergency and Critical Care).
Graduating in the top 15 from his chosen Magical University, Colin was quickly offered a position in the Ministry of Magic’s Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. With the wide gambit of skills he possesses, Colin is never idle and is often consulted in regards to different cases and animals that might fall under his department’s area of expertise.
Appearance: Colin stands a bit taller than average, measuring at 5’11”, and is of a strong, muscular build, with blue-grey eyes and dark brown hair that is generally kept short, but not too short, and neat without being too neat. Definitely a man who values comfort and functionality over style due to his line of work, Colin is most often seen in jeans and simple top with a form of boot for a shoe. However, he will dress up on occasion, and actually enjoys doing so most of the time. When reading or filling out paperwork, Colin can be seen wearing simple silver framed glasses. While he does have a family crest ring, he chooses to not wear it as he could be called for anything at a moment’s notice and does not wish for anything to befall this token of his family.
Personality: Colin is a relatively laid back individual with a calm, gentle, kind personality that aids him in most everything he does. A lover of music and books, a favorite hobby of his is sitting by the fire of his home with a good book and a hot cup of tea while any number of musical selections play in the background. Enjoying the simple things, Colin doesn’t spend his earnings on overly frivolous things. There is always the exception, however. A family man, by nature, Colin values and treasures his family, both magical and not and feels very strongly about the importance of the unique bonds families have. A very loyal man, Colin’s friends, who are simply chosen extensions of one’s family, are people that he will drop everything for should they need his help. There is always a place for them to stay should they need it.
On the flip side of Colin’s happy-go-lucky demeanor, he is not one to cross when it comes to the animals he cares so much for, his family and friends, or the principles of being a gentleman he was raised to be. Colin will jump to action, when called, whatever that might be. While not a quick to temper and throwing fists type of man, Colin’s analytical and quick thinking skills often take him to the path he needs to take to resolve an issue immediately over trying several solutions to see what might happen.
